Hudson Maness
viola
Bio
Hudson Maness is a violist and music teacher based in Montreal. In addition to performances sitting as principal violist in the Kingston Symphony, La Sinfonia de Lanaudière, and Orchestre Fidelio, his recent large-ensemble highlights include joining FILMharmonique for Fellowship of the Ring in Chicago and playing in the strings backup alongside Jordanian-American pianist Zade Dirani to sold out shows at Maison Symphonique and Théâtre Maisonneuve. When performing, Hudson aligns his ideal mindset with that of Yo-Yo Ma, whose attitude is to serve the audience like the host of a party looking for opportunities to help his guests feel welcome.
Through his primary passion of teaching, Hudson strives to foster a supportive and non-judgemental learning environment where students feel encouraged to develop their ability and unique artistic voice. He teaches violin, viola, and beginning piano to students of all ages. Outside his personal studio, Hudson maintains a full studio as a Certified Academy Teacher at Montreal Academy of Music and coaches string sectionals for F.A.C.E. primary and secondary schools. Every available summer, he returns to Colorado to assist his first viola teacher of ten years with her orchestral camp and concert week at Western Academy of Music.
Hudson received his Master of Music under André Roy at McGill University and his Bachelor of Music from Indiana University Bloomington under Stephen Wyrczynski. Outside of music, Hudson loves coffee, history, and reading.
